Loy Krathong is one of Thailand’s most beautiful and meaningful traditions. On this night, people gather by rivers, lakes, and canals to float krathongs (decorated baskets made from banana leaves, flowers, candles, and incense) as a way of paying respect to the water goddess and letting go of negativity, bad luck, and worries.
Highlights in 2025:
🌸 Thousands of candle-lit krathongs floating on rivers and lakes
🎆 Fireworks & lantern releases (especially in Chiang Mai – Yi Peng)
🎶 Cultural performances, parades, and traditional music
🍢 Street food festivals and night markets full of local flavors
Best Places to Experience Loy Krathong:
Chiang Mai – Yi Peng Lantern Festival with sky lanterns
Sukhothai – The historic park illuminated with lights & shows
Bangkok – Chao Phraya River, temples, and public parks
Tips for Visitors:
Arrive early to find a good spot near the water 🌊
Buy eco-friendly krathongs made from natural materials 🌿
Respect local traditions and dress politely when visiting temples 🙏
